Meet the U.S. Rocketry Team: Jacob Mello, Vehicle Engineer

Name: Jacob Mello
Nickname: Stewart
Grade: 9
Role: Vehicle Engineer

How has the team grown over the year?

At the beginning of the year we grouped as a team, but in many ways we were separate because we’d all built our own rockets and were focused on making sure that it was prepared for test launches. As the season drew close to Nationals we came together to support our most consistent rocket which allowed our teamwork to shine, bond with each other, and become better friends.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give a shout out to?

My brother Michael for inspiring me to join this club and supporting me throughout the entire journey.

What are you most excited to see in Paris?

The Eiffel Tower

Favorite Emoji?

How does it feel to represent the United States of America on the International Stage?

We feel a lot of pressure. We are representing the entirety of all TARC teams in the US and there’s a spotlight on us now. I believe that we will uphold our reputation and also set the bar for years to come.

What advice do you have for students interested in TARC?

My advice is to be flexible. It is very hard to have a perfect flight day. There could be weather problems like rain, snow, and wind, but if you are flexible enough then you can successfully launch your rocket despite all these conditions. Practice makes perfect.

Are you more excited for cheese, bread, croissants or another food in Paris????

Definitely croissants. Chocolate filled croissants would be a dream come true
