Subject: TARC Update Email

Teams,

Since 2008 is a leap year, make sure you take advantage of the extra day this month to test-fly your rocket!  Here is an update from the Program Schedule:

By February 1 you should:

·        Test-fly your initial TARC design (without altimeter), making sure that you leave time to redesign, rebuild, and re-fly by April 7 if this initial flight/design is not successful!

·        If your first flight is fully successful, test-fly again with stopwatch timing and the altimeter installed. Repeat test flights until you hit the design targets.

·        If your first flight is not successful, do post-flight failure analysis and re-design.

By March 15 you should:

·        Make your first official qualification flight attempt in front of an NAR Senior member observer

Remember, Monday, April 7th is the last day to submit qualification scores to AIA for your chance to be in the Top 100!

If you have not yet found a NAR mentor or observer, please see http://www.aia-aerospace.org/tarc/pdf/mentors.pdf to find one near you.  If you are having trouble locating a NAR member (note: you can contact a NAR member in another state), you may have an impartial adult join NAR to observe your qualification flight.  Visit http://www.nar.org/NARjoin.html for more information.  Additionally, if a NAR mentor contacts your team, please give them the courtesy of a reply whether you need their assistance or not.  They are here to help you!

As always, email rocketcontest@aia-aerospace.org with any questions!
